Hi again,
I haven't yet fixed my auctex 11.54, as Ralf suggested after the *Compile Log*
buffer bug, so I'm not sure this is related. I've noticed that my reftex menu
is gone and reftex commands are not working at all. This was working fine
before upgrading to auctex 11.54. Has something changed in there?

I found out that I need to start reftex manually with M-x reftex-mode, even
though I have (add-hook 'LaTeX-mode-hook 'turn-on-reftex) in my ~/.emacs.

There could be an error which prevents the hook from being executed.
In that case you should find an error message in the *Messages* buffer.

Below are the messages received after loading the first *.tex file in an Emacs
session. There doesn't seem to be anything related to that particular hook,
although preview-mode-setup is another of my LaTeX-mode-hook's. Strange.

Loading tex...
Loading mule-util...done
Loading tex...done
Loading latex...done
Loading font-latex...done
Loading easy-mmode...done
Recognizing tables...done
File mode specification error: (void-function preview-mode-setup)
Applying style hooks... done

Looks like preview-mode-setup is not autoloaded. That would point to
an omission of loading "preview-latex.el" (or whatever start procedure
is necessary on your system).
