Special characters in sections,...

Hi,

I'm new to emacs, so to AUCTeX. I use emacs 21.3.1 and AUCTeX 11.55. Special
characters like ä, ö, ü or é in sections are not shown larger like the
"normal" ones. What can I do?

OT: Where can I ask about preview latex? I only found devel and bug groups
and I'm not sure that my problem is a bug: "remove previews from document"
just does nothing.

Thanks
Sebastian

That sounds like Emacs can't find proper fonts for them. The answer
how to fix this will very much depend on the system you use, so it
might be helpful to report such a problem with M-x
TeX-submit-bug-report RET. Generally, the developer version of Emacs
tends to be better at figuring out encoding-relating workarounds when
interacting with the environment (and it has some other advantages),
but there is no guarantee that it would fare better in this situation.

It might help if you install more fonts on your system (Linux?),
depending on what encoding you usually edit texts in. It might also
help or help not to select a different default font (try
Shift-mouse1 for some choices).

Sounds like a case for M-x preview-report-bug RET. Even if it turns
out that this is not a bug for some reason, the accompanying bug
reporting info makes diagnosing this much easier. It behaves
differently from "remove preview from buffer" then?

Yes, I use Linux (a Suse 9.2 System) and changing the font worked. Only
"Misc->Default" and "Fontset" except "default" and "standard: 16 dot
medium" don't work, some fonts are not found. So it's rather an emacs
problem than an AUCTeX one, isn't it?

Yes, "remove preview from buffer" works for me. If it may still be a bug in
your opinion I'll send a bug report.

Thanks for help

Certainly sounds like a bug: the current buffer should be considered
part of the current document even when TeX-master and other variables
might be set to strange values. However, the criteria for this have
been changed through the versions, so a report (which includes some
variable settings and version info) would help in diagnosing

a) whether this might already fixed in current versions,
b) whether your settings are strange,
c) whether preview-latex should nevertheless do something differently.
